Senior Project Manager Defence/Navy projects

About the position.

Working in an inspiring and strongly motivated, multidisciplinary team consisting of Sales- Engineering- and Production professionals. Your focus will be on high end projects for Naval and Governmental end customers.

This role involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders, primarily with principal contractor as well as end-customers/shipyards, government agencies, classification societies, and internal teams, to ensure project objectives are met in compliance with stringent military standards and regulations.

These activities range in a timeline from pre- sales contacts and contract handover to the final commissioning of the systems. You participate in technical- and project management meetings with indicated stakeholders

You are adding value by planning the work scope of the projects, balancing stakeholders’ interest, facilitating getting the deliverables done with focus on high standards of quality, security, confidentiality, time and budget.

The ideal candidate will have a background in multi-disciplinary projects management related to shipbuilding and/or engine room equipment, while understanding naval systems and defence protocols.

In this position, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Planning and leading the execution of assigned projects through all phases of the project lifecycle from start up to project closure.
  • Analysing and interpreting technical specifications for Generator sets and related equipment from internal and external sources and, if necessary, acquiring additional information.
  • In close co-operation with stakeholders drawing up and monitoring the Planning of a project, determining milestones and interfaces.
  • During realisation and in the pre-contract phase, (technical) advising the internal organization and customers on the choice of components and applications.
  • If necessary, assist at on-site work in the context of the position.
  • Leading, managing and developing your assigned (non hierarchical) project team.
  • Act as the point of contact for the customer and internal stakeholders in project related topics.
  • Develop, coordinate, execute, and maintain plan data as per contractual specification.
  • Accountable for the performance of the project deliverables, and project budget.
  • Facilitate/support technical solutions, including support for team members.
  • Responsible for internal project status /milestone reviews and reporting.
  • Responsible to follow on internal as well as contractual quality and security procedures.
  • Coordination and Facilitation of equipment deliveries.
  • Participation/Supportive in equipment FAT/HAT/SAT.
  • Advise on any changes to design and potential cost impacts.
  • Assist other team members when needed.
  • Stakeholder management, of external and internal stakeholders.
  • Active Participation in project meetings (also overseas, when needed)
  • Maintain confidentiality required by governmental contracts.


To be successful in this role we think you should have:

  • A Bachelor of Science in a relevant specialisation, e.g. mechanical, electrical, electronic or software engineering.
  • Knowledge of ERP and planning software
  • Working experience in the marine/naval or defence industry is an asset
  • General Cyber security knowledge
  • Good understanding of engine room equipment functionality
  • Understanding of defence related specifications, norms and logistic aspects.
  • Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Willing to travel abroad occasionally
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to act as mentor and facilitator for your team
  • You have a high work ethics.
